How long would it take to learn to sail to europe?

-i want to get a large sailboat, and sail to europe one day. i know nothing about what i need, the size of the ship, the number of people, supplies, etc. and i also know nothing about sailing, or the ocean... the only thing i know is the points of sail. what all would i need, and how would i learn to do it all?

thank you so much for any help!the length of time needed to gain enough sailing knowledge and experience depends on you and what other experiences you already have. as far as the number of crew needed, one or more. there are many seaworthy sailboats (ocean proven) from 20' on up.



my suggestion is to check out the ASA sailing school courses. upon completion of each level you will receive certification. upon completion of the advanced courses you will be qualified to bareboat charter sailboats.

hope this helpsStart by taking sailing school and they will teach you a lot about the ocean and sailing. It really is not that hard to to you just need to be prepared and ready for anything. 95 percent of the time it will not be bad as long as you pick your whether windows. See if you can help crew for charters which will help you learn more also. You can sail there by yourself but it would make it easier if you got a crew mate or partner. You could comfortably cross in a 35 to 45 ft boat by yourself or with one or two other friends. Check out boats on yachtworld.com and put in an advanced search of what you want. Good Luck
