I have a 14ft boat what size motor should i get?

-i have a 14ft fishing/hunting boat i have a 5.5hp motor right now and i want something faster and more power what should i get 10? 15? 20? or something else? whats your opinion?on the starboard (right) inside of the transom there should be a us coast guard capacity plate that will tell you the max number of persons, weight and hp for your boat. you will be able to mount an outboard up to the max hp listed on that tag. if you boat no longer has a capacity plate then you can take a look at similar boats to figure out what the max hp should be.

if you give us more info on your boat, (manufacturer, model, year) we will be able to give you a better answer. other factors include how heavy you load the boat.

if your boat is a light weight "V" bottom boat then a 10hp to 15hp should be sufficient to get it up to planning speeds. (assuming that the boat is rated for that much hp)

for info on your crestliner go to this site

hope this helps
15hp should do it,but don't go over the rated hp on the rating plate.YOU control the speed.in my opinion it's better to have it and not need it,than to need it and not have it.
Hello,

As you have 14ft boat,15 hp motor will be great for your boat. You will get faster boating experience with 15 hp motor.
I just purchased a 1960 14' V Lone Star and I have a 18hp Evinrude FasTwin motor.
