Where can I go camping 3-4 hours away from L.A that also has a lake. Not looking to bring a boat or anything..?

-I want a place that has a lake for family activities surrounded by pine trees. It's ok if the lake is not directly on the camp site im willing to drive a little bit to get to it. Thank you YAHOO people!Theres 2 places I visited during a vacation to the coachella valley in the San jacinto mountains. we went up to the town Idylwild in the mountain and came across a rather large lake, lake hemet, its a lovely looking place where they rent speedboats and other things like that. just along from that is another smaller lake called lake fulmor. It is an amazing idyllic setting surrounded by pine trees and has its own huge rock which people tombstone off. It looked great fun, and also has bbq and toilet facilities there. In between the 2 theres are few different places to camp and of course the small mountain town of Idyllwild. The san jacinto mountain are easliy accessible from palm desert, which is about 3 hours or so down the 10. I would suggest visiting the mountains in the summer when its a warm comfortable temperature up there, since in the winter there can be at least 3ft of snow.

heres a website that will give you some more info on the area and a map showing the locations of the places i've mentioned..... http://www.idyllwild.com/camping.html.

if you do go i hope you enjoy your visit just as i did. :-)
arrowhead, i've been there before, nice place.

as a fellow californian, you couldnt live in a better state for outdoors activities. ocean, lakes, snow, desert, forests, we got it all. and within an easy days drive no matter where in cali you are.
