Does turf from a hardware store work well on a boat instead of buying expensive boat carpet?

-the reason boat carpet is expensive is it has to be extremely durable, that turf crap in the hardware store is cheap garbage and will not last more than one season, and is probably really slippery when wet. Look for an indoor outdoor carpet in the hardware store, that is what you need.is it for inside or outside? im not sure about inside, but outside i myself am using a non slip mat. its like the dash board mats. can be bought by the roll here in ireland and also on ebay.co.uk 1.5m X 1m costs about 5 euro. its good to move around on and nothing slips about on it either. its light as a feather and doesnt hold water. just glue down the corners of each roll coz it only lasts about 3 yrs or so. shoes being the death of it.
If your boat isn't fancy just use something like rhinoliner. I don't know what turf is but if it's similar it should be okay. It's not like you're living on the boat.
salt water can destroy some backings on carpet. use marine grade only.
