What would you use for a ships hull? metal or non-metal?

-hw emergency! help!

plz rply asap guys!For ships there really is no alternative, metal. For Yachts though;

Under 36 ft, fiberglass for preference. Over that metal starts to look good for its strength and its extra weight is not so important. Its also nicer to hit a reef with a metal hull and take a dent, rather than rip a hole as you would with f.glass.

Aluminium is nice if you can afford it, but does require knowledge of Alu+ welding for repair.

Wood is out of fashion now for maintenance reasons.

Balsa core with f.glass offers more strength for less weight.

Carbon fibre is stiffer than f.glass but expensive requiring special skills.
Steel.
for smaller ones, fiberglass or aluminum.
